Comprehension:
1 a)
Tolerance is necessary for world dominance because it improves the resources which world-dominating countries need in order to be successful. Resources in this case are humans with different talents from many different ethnic groups. So it is not possible to dominate the world only by using the talents of a single ethnic group because this makes it impossible to have the best economy, the best military and the best technology.
1 b)
According to the author there are two big dangers of an anti-immigration policy. The first one is the economical danger because forbidding immigration also forbids the highly-qualified workers which do no live in the United States. Nowadays there are not enough highly-qualified workers in the U.S. so that this policy does not push but strongly damages economy. The second big danger is a danger to the whole country due terrorism and extremism, which results of the try of the U.S. to bring democracy to every part of the world. This try influences many people who do not agree with this policy and who do not live in the U.S. This fact makes many people hate America.
1 c)
The author describes this policy as a system which makes it possible for America to dominate the world without the fear of terrorism and extremism. Characteristic for this policy is that people are allowed to immigrate to the Us and the great benefit is that foreigners think of America more as a friend than as an enemy. This is very important a question 1b) has shown.
2. Analysis
a) This cartoon "Anti-immigration 1620" by J. Parker shows some native Americans constructing a wall. In the lower left-hand corner, in front of the wall, you can find a small ship carrying people who look like the first settlers. Moreover, in the background you can see a forest and below the cartoon there is a caption which says "They say they´re building a wall because too many of us enter illegallly and won´t learn their language or assimilate into their culture".
Jeff Parker trys to make the point that the first immigrantes of the U.S. are the ancestors of those people who try to firbid immigration nowadays. He wants people to remember the American History and that America would not exist in the way it is today if immigration had been forbidden in former times. In addition he makes people aware of the bad feelings people have who are not allowed to immigrate to the U.S.
Relating to the article you can say that it criticizes the anti-immigration trend because it is unfair.
In my opinion this cartoon is very convincing because its message is very clear.
